Ankle Sprains
Ankle sprains are caused by an unnatural twisting or force on the ankle bones of the foot, often resulting in one or more ligaments on the outside of the ankle to be stretched or torn. If not properly treated, ankle sprains could develop into long-term problems. We have x-ray services on site and treatment options available to help.
Bunions
Bunions are misaligned big toe joints that can become swollen and tender, causing the first joint of the big toe to slant outward, and the second joint to angle toward the other toes. Bunions can be painful with activity and limiting. It can be difficult to find the right shoes as well. We have conservative and surgical options for this deformity.
Flat Feet
Flat feet are a common condition. In infants and toddlers, the longitudinal arch is not developed and flat feet are normal. The arch develops in childhood, and by adulthood, most people have developed normal arches. Orthotics are a good treatment to help prevent worsening of the deformities. There are lots of over the counter insoles but most of them are not adequate or functional.
Hammertoes
Hammertoe is a deformity of the second, third, fourth, or fifth toes. In this condition, the toe is bent at the middle joint, resembling a hammer. Left untreated, hammertoes can become inflexible and require surgery. We have multiple conservative treatments and surgical options. There are also surgeries that can be done in our office conveniently.
Diabetic Foot Care
With a diabetic foot, a wound as small as a blister from wearing a shoe that's too tight can cause a lot of damage. Diabetes decreases blood flow, so injuries are slow to heal. Diabetics can have multiple foot problems including toenail issues, ulcers, neuropathy. We can help keep diabetic feet healthy! Also if you don't currently have issues, a yearly diabetic exam is a good way to stay on top of your foot health.
Heel Pain
Plantar fasciitis (or heel pain) is commonly traced to an inflammation on the bottom of the foot. Our practice can evaluate arch pain, and offer many different conservative treatment options. We even may prescribe customized shoe inserts called orthotics to help alleviate the pain. In difficult cases, we can offer surgical release and non-surgical options such as amniotic tissue injections.
Corns
Corns and calluses are protective layers of compacted, dead skin cells. They are caused by repeated friction from skin rubbing against bony areas or against an irregularity in a shoe. Corns ordinarily form on the toes and calluses on the soles of the feet. There are conservative treatments, including trimming of lesions, padding, shoe changes. Sometimes surgery to eliminate the painful bony issue needed. In many circumstances, this can be done right here in our office.
Athlete's Foot
A chronic infection caused by various types of fungus, Athlete's foot is often spread in places where people go barefoot such as public showers or swimming pools. Chronic athlete's foot is sometimes not known to the patient as it has stopped itching. Undetected, it can be a source for spreading fungus to the toenails.
Custom Orthotics
Custom orthotics can be a major difference for most general problems. They are commonly used to relieve plantar fasciitis and heel pain, provide support for flat feet or high arches, and reduce pain from bunions or hammertoes. Patients with arthritis or sports injuries may also benefit because orthotics can prevent aggravation of small issues and help shield the joints and soft tissues. Minor changes in foot mechanics can relieve pain and improve function.
